Probiotic
Updated February 28, 2026
Probiotics are live organisms intended to influence gut ecology, and product differences can be substantial even when labels look similar.
Why it matters
CFU and strain identity can shift both expected benefit and side-effect profile.
CFU, strains, and form
- CFU is a count of viable organisms, not a guarantee of clinical effect by itself
- spore and non-spore forms have different stability profiles
- strain labels are central for interpreting likely behavior and known evidence
Storage and handling expectations
Shelf-stable does not automatically mean stable.
Look for:
- explicit storage temperature
- minimal heat exposure windows
- clear handling and expiration cues
Response timeline
Many users see GI reactions in days, with partial normalization in 1–3 weeks.
If symptoms worsen beyond this window, reassess strain or dosing.
Practical action step
Start one strain/form package at a time and keep dose, strain, and intake context in each entry for at least 14 days.
Uncertainty and limits
- Evidence is limited on broad population claims across all probiotic strains.
- Evidence is limited on long-term equivalence between different storage and handling environments.

How this appears in Unfair
Unfair uses strain/form metadata to reduce false signal assumptions and to frame realistic adaptation expectations.
Clinical safety note
Persistent GI distress, fever, or systemic symptoms require clinician review and temporary suspension until assessed.
